About the Area

About Woodstock

Woodstock sits about 45 km east of London where Highways 401 and 403 meet, and calls itself the Friendly City. The downtown along Dundas Street is a well-kept stretch of Victorian brick, and the surrounding streets, especially around Victoria Park and the old Vansittart Avenue mansions, carry big century homes with steep, complicated roofs.

The south side, toward the 401 and the auto plant, is where most of the growth of the last twenty years happened, with larger two-storey homes and the big cut-up roofs that come with them. In between are the postwar bungalows and side-splits that make up most of any Ontario town. Many of the century homes also have plank decking and skylights added over the years, both of which get checked closely before the new roof goes on.

Weather is similar to London's with slightly less lake-effect snow. Freeze-thaw is the real wear on shingles here, and the older homes with limited attic insulation see ice dams most winters.

Roof replacement, repair, metal roofing and flat roofs are quoted in Woodstock after an inspection, with the scope and price in writing.
